Traditional meteorological monitoring mainly relies on fixed stations. These stations provide continuous data but have insufficient spatial coverage. When meteorological observations are needed along specific routes or in areas where fixed stations are difficult to establish, the fixed station method is limited. The emergence of Vehicle Weather Stations addresses the need for meteorological data collection in mobile conditions, extending meteorological monitoring capabilities from fixed points to mobile platforms.
The core measurement technology of Vehicle Weather Stations is the ultrasonic time-difference method. Sensors determine wind speed and direction by calculating the time difference of ultrasonic wave propagation in air. This measurement method has no mechanical moving parts, so there are no issues with mechanical wear, inertia, or freezing, and it can operate under zero wind speed conditions.
The equipment adopts an integrated design, incorporating ultrasonic sensors, GPS antenna, electronic compass, and data acquisition unit within a compact housing. The installation method commonly uses a magnetic base, which can be directly fixed on the vehicle roof for quick deployment and removal. Data is transmitted to the on-board display and control terminal via wired or wireless methods.
