The Road Weather Station is equipped with a variety of high-precision meteorological sensors, enabling it to monitor key meteorological elements in real time and with high accuracy, including air temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, and visibility. Its monitoring data is particularly critical for road sections vulnerable to meteorological impacts, such as bridges, tunnels, and mountainous areas. For example, in winter, the sensors can detect drops in temperature and issue timely road icing warnings as soon as the freezing point is reached, buying valuable time for traffic management departments to take measures such as salting and de-icing.
The data transmission and processing system of the Road Weather Station is highly efficient. Data collected by the sensors is transmitted to the data center via wireless networks at extremely high speeds, where data analysis algorithms and models deeply mine and analyze the data. The system can quickly determine the impact of current meteorological conditions on highway traffic and immediately trigger an early warning mechanism upon detecting potential risks, such as road waterlogging caused by heavy rain or driving hazards caused by strong winds. Early warning information is rapidly delivered to traffic management departments, operational units, and drivers through multiple channels, including text messages, APP notifications, and electronic display screens along highways.
On expressways, the role of weather stations is evident. They can monitor real-time road conditions such as water accumulation, icing, and snow cover, providing data support for road maintenance and repair. After deploying weather stations on a certain expressway, the accident rate significantly decreased. In urban roads, weather stations set up at key locations provide real-time traffic condition information to traffic management departments, assisting in the formulation of scientific traffic management strategies and improving road traffic efficiency. Weather stations beside airport runways can monitor real-time indicators such as runway slipperiness and snow thickness to ensure the safety of aircraft takeoffs and landings.
